"The glacier knocks in the cupboard, The desert sighs in the bed, And the crack in the teacup opens A lane to the land of the dead."

-W.H. Auden

Eclipse of The Wolf Moon

The 20th of January. The fabled super blood wolf moon was rising in the east. Meanwhile, the western sky was demanding its share of the attention. "Beat this, moon" it said.
After nightfall, we lay in the grass, shivering. The kids squabbled, the cats pounced. Finally, deprived of its reflected light, the moon revealed its true nature, that of an exquisitely round rock spinning in the sky.
The year has been good to us so far. Knock on wood and fingers crossed that things continue to get better.

Solar Eclipse

The August 21 eclipse of the sun was only a partial one for us, but still an opportunity for Science, and we're always up for a little celestial activity. We made projectors out of cereal boxes and marveled at how we could see clouds drifting across the paper at the bottom. We sought out leafy trees to see the crescent-shaped sunlight on the ground underneath.
We will have to wait until 2024 for our total eclipse, but all in all, it was a good day.

Eclipse

Above my window, the eclipsed moon hovers.
